People who are looking for tweets by their favorite companies, friends, and celebrities currently must go through the process of logging into Twitter and working their way through the search box. Advanced search is helpful to narrow down your results, especially when you are looking for ones that are a little bit older. Archived tweets can be difficult to find though with the millions of tweets that are added in every day. Several websites offer onsite ability to look specifically for older tweets and they are free to use. Wouldn’t it be so much simpler if the search for tweets could be done easily and quickly? Now it will be possible thanks to Google’s new partnership with Twitter!
How this works
Previously when the search for tweets was done by a user in Google search, Google had to actually crawl Twitter’s site looking for matches to the search criteria. The search results that are currently returned show the profile for the user who posted the tweet. While you will still be able to see the user’s profile in results, the changes mean that the tweets will be indexed as well. The new deal that was brokered between the two internet giants will allow Google to have access directly to all of the tweeted tweets on Twitter. People who are looking to search for tweets from the users they are following will begin to notice the changes sometime within the first half of this year.
The boon for business
Businesses will likely see the most benefit from this new arrangement. With tweets showing up directly in the Google search results it is to be expected that they will gain more followers than ever before. Traffic will be driven to Twitter’s site much easier as well, meaning that marketing campaigns in real-time will see an increase in response from followers. What makes this great for people who are searching for tweets is that Google is going to receive instant access to the tweets that are posted by the more than 284 million active users on Twitter. If you missed a tweet from 10 minutes ago, you will simply be able to search it and it will show up right away since they have been indexed in real-time. This will save you the time that it takes to log into Twitter and search through your feed of “followed”.
Popular hash tags are also seen during the day while you are going about your activities. Companies who use Twitter are more and more adding hash tags into commercials, POS advertising, and signs and flyers. If you happen to be walking past the TV and a commercial catches your eye, while you may not remember the exact name of the company, you will remember the hash tag. Simply type the hash tag in the search bar in Google and you can connect with them in only moments.
Finding exactly what you are searching for will very shortly become a process taking seconds. There will be no more refining search terms over and over to get to what you need. And say goodbye to screening pages of search results forever!
